The Sahid Lakhan Thapa Park has been designed as a site responsive multi-functional open space with integrated road design that aims to complement the existing surroundings and incorporate facilities to develop as an urban center. The public space will act as a social hub which appeals to a wider audience of the community. The development is an opportunity to encourage community interaction and promote open spaces that will further enhance the urban environment.
The first concern was to demolish the boundary wall that encircles the four cornered park. The concept is to dismantle the barrier between the busy city space and the potential Community Space, promoting accessibility and visibility. The footpath proposed around the outer edge of the park facilitates as a flexible transit space between the park activities and the city activities. The internal pathways within the park provide shorter routes for the public to travel giving them an opportunity to participate in the activities offered within the open space.
